about

This song has been kicking around for years now.
We cut a demo at Pleasantry Lane back in 2011/2012, but we couldn't "beat the demo" and it didn't make the final cut for TBTTTL. But we held onto the tracks, and we resurrected them during the July 2015 sessions with Daniele in Texas.

The song was originally inspired by a conversation with my friend and songwriter Camille Cortinas in which we were talking about how all of us songwriter/musician/artist types wear different "hats" to make ends meet, or even just because we have a wide range of interests. Sometimes I find it hard to focus on doing one thing, because there are so many things that I love to do.

The song morphed though; it's not *quite* about that anymore. So what's it about? That's up to you. As always, YMMV. ;)

I love the *feel* of this one - if I may say so, I think we nailed it, and I'm so happy it will finally see the light of day officially.

lyrics

change your disguise

it’s a good thing to wear so many coats
so many hats, so many gloves
pull back the layers and change the scene
when the going gets tough

and it’s a good thing to wear so many shoes
in case you get caught stepping on the cracks
throw the soles onto a pile
and burn them on the tracks

change your disguise
don’t be afraid to cover up your eyes
do what it takes
and step into another lie

and it’s a good thing you always travel light
it makes it that much easier to slip away
no one would recognize you now with your new face
not even in the broad light of day

so change your disguise
don’t be afraid to open up your eyes
do what it takes
and step into another lie

you were always such a pretty girl
you always turned their heads
you were always full color front page
but now you’re classified instead

and I know it’s hard to wrap yourself in black
the living shouldn’t play the dead
I know it’s hard to disappear into the crowd
and still see the road ahead

but change your disguise
don’t be afraid to look them in the eye
do what it takes
and step into another lie
